Dental sealants act like invisible shields that protect the teeth from harmful, cavity-causing bacteria. They are an excellent preventive measure that patients can take to keep their molars in tip-top shape, and they are known for being quick, comfortable, and inexpensive dental services. Contact UsAre dental sealants just for kids?
Dental sealants are often recommended for kids, but they can be utilized by patients of all ages. Since sealants are placed over the tops of molars, a patient’s first set can be placed when their first set of molars grows in, which is typically around age six. The second set of molars usually grows in around age 12, and we can place sealants over these teeth as well. Utilizing dental sealants from a young age helps prevent cavities from forming in the grooves of the molars, which can be hard for kids to clean properly.
Are dental sealants noticeable?
Dental sealants are completely invisible to the untrained eye. In fact, some patients have dental sealants on their teeth that they’ve completely forgotten about! There are also no food restrictions that come with dental sealants, and having sealants placed will not change how your teeth feel or how it feels to chew. During your routine dental visits, we will examine your teeth and gums as well as your sealants to ensure that they are still holding up well. When they need to be replaced, we’d be happy to remove them and place new sealants.
Are dental sealants expensive?
Dental sealants are a great investment for patients who are prone to developing tooth decay on their molars, as sealants can help prevent costly and time-consuming restorative dental treatments from becoming necessary. Many dental insurance plans offer coverage for dental sealants, especially for children. Our office also provides flexible payment plans, and our in-house dental savers plan also offers excellent discounts on treatments like dental sealants as well.
