In honor of Earth Day, Mission Hills Family Dental would like to show you a small way to ‘go green’ in your own home. These toothpaste recipes are simple and fun to make. They are a great way to encourage dental hygiene for your kids, too! There are thousands of recipes available out there online, but here are three variations to try at home. Ingredients can be found at most grocery stores or specialty health food shops. Use reusable containers such as mason jars or squeezable tubes like those found here.
Homemade Toothpaste with Coconut Oil
Ingredients
- 6 tbsp coconut oil
- 6 tbsp baking soda
- 25 drops essential oil (whatever you prefer)
- 1 tsp stevia (or more if you like it sweeter)
Four Ingredient Whitening Toothpaste
Ingredients
- ¼ cup Calcium Carbonate Powder
- 3 Tablespoons Xylitol powder
- ¼ cup MCT oil (plus more for thinning if needed)
- Essential oils of choice (optional)

Super Simple Toothpaste with Household Ingredients
Ingredients
- 2/3 cup baking soda
- 1 tsp fine sea salt (optional)
- 1 – 2 tsp peppermint extract or 10-15 drops peppermint essential oil (or flavor of choice such as orange.)
